Kindle DX: One month later
Categories: Product Review

After owning the Kindle DX for a full month I am finally ready to give the world my opinion. The kindle has far exceeded all of the high expectations I had for it. It took less time then I thought it would to get used to the Kindle. The screen is large and easy to read on. The e-ink makes ready easy on the eyes and I do not get strain even on the longest of reading sessions (and that is well over 2 hours in some cases with my daily commute). The selection of book available is unmatched and I have had no trouble finding any titles I have been interested in. The weight (though it is increased by the cover I use) is featherlight.

There are many features that adds tons of value to the Kindle DX. I have fallen in love with the built in dictionary feature that defines word instantly. This is especially useful for all of those medical drama novels and history novels. The built in 3G from Sprint allows anywhere anytime access to the kindle store. This means it is even easier than before to rack up hundreds on your amazon account. The free internet browser is great for fact checking statements and looking things up in Wikipedia but is not optimal for updating your fantasy team or doing anything that requires you to refresh the page. The Kindle screen’s only drawbacks are it’s lack of color and slow refresh rate. Two things I can live with because the kindle is an E-Reader first and everything else second. The battery life is great. I charge it after about 10 hours of use each week. I have never been left without my kindle on the train yet.

The price point is something that should be discussed. At $499 the Kindle DX is not exactly cheap. Everyone complains why buy the kindle when I can get a nice netbook for the same price. As I said before the kindle is built for reading and if it reading you want to do there is nothing better.
